AI visibility tracker, agency or done-for-you: what a small SaaS team actually needs
Disclosure first: we sell a done-for-you service, so we have a stake in this question. We have tried to make this guide useful whichever option you pick, and to say plainly when ours is the wrong one.
There are four ways a small B2B SaaS company can work on being named by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. They differ less in what they measure than in who does the work after the measuring.
The four options
| Option | Typical price | Who does the work | Fits when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-serve tracker (e.g. Otterly.AI, Peec AI) | $29 to $95 a month for entry plans | Your team | You have someone who will act on the data every week |
| Enterprise platform (e.g. Profound) | Custom pricing, sales-led | Your team, with the platform's tooling | Several brands, regions or a large content team |
| AEO agency | $500 to $12,000+ a month | The agency | You have budget and want strategy plus execution |
| Done-for-you pilot (e.g. Brandseen) | $299 a month for 90 days | The provider; you approve | Small team, no spare content capacity, want proof before a bigger commitment |
What a tracker gives you, and what it doesn't
A tracker runs a fixed list of prompts across several AI engines on a schedule and shows whether your brand is mentioned, in what position, and which sources were cited. Otterly.AI's entry plan covers 15 prompts on 4 engines for $29 a month; Peec AI starts at $95 a month for 50 prompts on 3 engines.
That data is the starting point for everything else, and it is cheap. What a tracker does not do is the work that changes the answers: writing comparison and alternatives pages, fixing crawler access and rendering, getting listed on the review sites and in the articles the assistants cite, and answering questions in communities. Some trackers suggest what to do. Your team still does it.
Choose a tracker if someone on your team owns content and can spend a few hours every week acting on what it shows.
What an enterprise platform adds
Platforms like Profound add depth: more engines and prompts, multiple brands and regions, deeper analysis of citations, and integrations for large content teams. Pricing is custom. For a company with one product and one market, most of that depth goes unused.
Choose a platform if you manage several brands or regions, have a content team to feed it, and need reporting for leadership across all of them.
What an AEO agency does
An agency does the work: audit, strategy, content, technical fixes and often outreach and digital PR. 2026 pricing guides put entry packages at roughly $500 to $3,500 a month and mid-market retainers at $2,000 to $12,000, with enterprise programs well above that. Ranges vary between sources, and so does what is included.
Two things to ask any agency before signing: which engines and prompts they will measure, and whether you get a before-and-after report per page they publish. "AI visibility" without a defined prompt list is hard to hold anyone to.
Choose an agency if you have the budget, want strategy and execution in one place, and are ready to commit for six months or more.
Where a done-for-you pilot fits
A done-for-you pilot is a narrower, cheaper version of the agency model with a fixed end date. Ours runs 90 days at $299 a month: we set up the buyer questions and competitors, plan the content, write and publish pages after your approval, draft LinkedIn, Reddit and YouTube material for you to post, prepare the technical fixes, and report before and after on each piece.
The trade-off is scope. A pilot covers one product and a limited set of buyer questions. It is a way to find out whether AI visibility work moves anything for your category before you hire an agency or a person for it.
When it's the wrong choice: if you need dashboards for many brands, SSO or a self-serve tool your team runs daily, a tracker or platform fits better. If you already have a content team with time, a $29 to $95 tracker may be all you need.
How to decide in three questions
- Who will do the work? If the honest answer is "nobody has time", don't buy a tracker on its own. Buy execution or wait.
- How many brands and markets? One product in one market rarely needs an enterprise platform.
- What would prove it worked? Agree on 10 to 20 buyer questions and the engines to check before you spend anything, and measure the same questions at the start and after 8 to 12 weeks.
Questions people ask
What is the cheapest way to track AI visibility?
Entry tracker plans start around $29 a month, for example Otterly.AI with 15 prompts across 4 engines as of October 2026. You can also run your buyer questions by hand in each assistant once a month and record the answers in a spreadsheet.
Do I need an AEO agency?
Only if nobody on your team can do the content, technical and outreach work. If someone can, a tracker plus their time is usually enough to start.
What is a good Profound alternative for a small team?
For data only, a self-serve tracker such as Peec AI or Otterly.AI costs far less. If you need the work done as well, look at agencies or a done-for-you pilot.
How long before any of these options show results?
Technical fixes take effect within days of the crawlers revisiting. Changes in which brands assistants recommend usually take 6 to 8 weeks or more after new pages and mentions go live.
